I am a dog-loving typography nerd, who is both a practicing graphic designer and a design educator. Currently, I serve as Chair for the Visual Communication and Design program at Virginia Tech and on the AIGA National Design Educators Committee. I received my Bachelors at University of Illinois, with a focus in Graphic Design, and a Masters of Fine Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University, with a focus in Visual Communication Design.
Prior to joining Virginia Tech, I worked professionally as a designer for the Architecture and Design firm, Marnell Companies, where I regularly worked with Architects, Interior Designers, and Industrial Designers on large-scale resorts. My primary design foci are on branding, typography, user-experience design, editorial design, and packaging. I regularly collaborate on Freelance Design projects and Grant research. My work has been awarded nationally and internationally by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA), Graphic Design U.S.A., Graphis, Hiii Typography, HOW Magazine, Print Magazine, and the University & College Designers Association (UCDA).
